The SARSTEDT growth surfaces: Practical colour codes for quick assignment

STANDARD

Colour code: Red
Cell type: adherent cells

A special treatment of the polystyrene surface introduces hydrophilic groups into the surface. This enables the binding of cell surface proteins and thus the adhesion of the cells to the plastic surface. The red-coded, hydrophilic standard growth surface therefore offers many adherent cells an optimal culture substrate.

CELL+

Colour code: Yellow
Cell type: fastidious adherent cells

Primary cells, sensitive cell culture lines and cells cultivated under serum-reduced/serum-free conditions place particularly high demands on the surface of the cell culture vessels. The yellow coded Cell+ growth surface was developed especially for such cells. A special treatment of the plastic surface introduces additional polar groups into the hydrophilic surface. This leads to an improved imitation of the in vivo environment and thus to the adhesion of demanding cells. Due to its properties, the Cell+ surface can make the use of coated culture vessels superfluous in many cases.

SUSPENSION

Colour code: Green
Cell type: Suspension cells

For suspension cells (mostly cells of lymphoid origin, hybridoma cells, etc.) that are not cultivated adherently in solution, culture vessels with the green, hydrophobic growth surface are ideally suited. The hydrophobic surface minimises cell losses during sub-cultivation due to unwanted micro-adhesion.

CELL CULTURE BOTTLES

Available with a growth area of 25 cm2, 75 cm2 and 175 cm2. All cell culture flasks are made of high-quality, crystal-clear polystyrene to enable simple and rapid microscopic monitoring of cell growth. 

  • Easy access to all corners with pipettes and scrapers

  • Large labelling fields for easier work

  • Engraved and imprinted scaling

  • High tilt resistance due to stacking edge

  • Reduced risk of contamination thanks to slanted bottle neck and anti-drip edge

  • Quick-release cap - in the filter cap and 2-position screw cap versions - enables opening and closing with 1/3 of a turn.

CELL CULTURE PLATES

Available with 6, 12, 24, 48 and 96 wells. The plates are made of high-quality, crystal-clear polystyrene and are compatible for analyses in a wide range of devices thanks to their dimensions being based on ANSI/SLAS standards.

  • Alphanumeric labelling on the edge and between the wells for better orientation when filling

  • Reduced risk of contamination during pipetting thanks to free-standing wells

  • Secure gripping thanks to non-slip side grids

  • Transparent side panels allow visual inspection of the medium

  • Integrated ventilation cams and condensation rings in the lid for gas exchange and minimising evaporation
