Multi-Safe disposal boxes for hospitals and laboratories
Medical waste is an everyday occurrence in medical practices, clinics, laboratories and research facilities in human and veterinary medicine. Responsible handling and legally compliant disposal are essential. With user-friendly and innovative solutions, you can reduce the risk of infection and contamination, facilitate the handling of waste and optimise your disposal concept.
SARSTEDT is a leading innovator and provider of high-quality solutions for medicine and research. These include our versatile Multi-Safe disposal boxes, which offer an innovative solution with a combination of simplicity and safety for handling pointed or sharp consumables such as needles or lancets. We offer a wide range of products, and our certified disposal boxes can be customised to suit every need.

Importance of safe disposal
Safe disposal of disposable products, consumables and other waste from the medical sector or laboratory environments is essential from pre-analysis to post-analysis. Every day, a wide variety of materials and substances are used in facilities such as laboratories, hospitals, nursing homes or medical centres, which can pose health, injury, environmental risks and jeopardising the precision of analyses. Proper and legally compliant disposal of sharp instruments, biological and diagnostic samples is therefore essential.
With a well thought-out, clear disposal concept and innovative disposal solutions such as those offered by SARSTEDT, you can protect your laboratory teams and employees from injuries and infections. They also prevent environmental pollution that can result from the disposal of harmful substances and significantly and reliably reduce the risk of contamination in your work areas.

All the reasons for safe disposal at a glance
The most important reasons for proper, and legally compliant disposal of medical and research waste include
Maximum health protection: Practical, simple, low-contact operation, puncture and break proof materials and clear official labelling of biological or medical waste reduce the risk of injury and health risks for everyone involved and protect the general public from potential risks of infection.
Avoidance of cross-contamination: A clear, professional disposal concept prevents cross-contamination. To do this, dispose of contaminated waste and sharp utensils as quickly as possible and with as little contact as possible using containers specially provided for this purpose.
Compliance with legal regulations: With UN certification and proven compliance with regulations such as ISO 23907 or TRBA 250, you fulfil all regulations and legal guidelines that exist for the disposal of biological substances, medical waste and laboratory waste.
Environmental protection: Reliably leak-proof and robust disposal containers prevent the contamination of soil and water that can result from improper or non-compliant disposal.
Cost and time efficiency: Simple, fast and safe disposal saves you considerable costs, requires fewer staff and thus creates more time for your core competences or for the considerate treatment of patients.
Features and advantages of the Multi-Safe disposal boxes
With the Multi-Safe disposal boxes, we offer you an innovative solution for the disposal of contaminated sharps that can accumulate in surgeries, clinics and sometimes in universities. Thanks to the variety of product designs with different insertion openings, volumes and end closures, you will always find the right disposal box to suit your disposal requirements and scope.
What our Multi-Safe disposal boxes offer you
High-quality, robust materials: Our Multi-Safe disposal boxes are mainly made of high-quality polypropylene, which is characterised by its durability and resistance. Polypropylene can also be incinerated in an environmentally friendly way without releasing harmful substances. This alone reduces your ecological footprint. You will always find specific information on product properties in the material descriptions of our Multi-Safe solutions.
Variety of sizes: Depending on the throughput and the consumables required, you will find our disposal solutions in different volumes, ranging from 25 ml to 300 ml or larger bins from 3 litres to 35 litres to voluminous 60 litres.
Innovative safety features: Safe disposal always includes safe, easy and low-contact operation during disposal. To this end, we offer Multi-Safe safety features such as simple one-handed operation, simple and safe lid assembly with snap-on hooks, a labelled recommended fill level to prevent overfilling, practical pull-off and twist-off devices as well as expandable throw-in openings and visual closure confirmations.
Types of Multi-Safe disposal boxes
Our disposal solutions cover a wide range of products and are therefore suitable both for the disposal requirements of outpatient use and for high volumes of consumables, such as those that may arise in clinics, surgeries, laboratories or other research facilities.
Our types of disposal boxes are designed to meet different needs and offer versions that fulfil the requirements of use in outpatient units as well as larger volumes requirements and safe integration in stationary working environments. Other selection aspects include practical one-handed operation for opening and end closure, expandable insertion openings and various pull-off and twist-off devices for cannulas, luer systems and insulin pens.
As an independent family business, we are committed to the environment and future generations. In line with this obligation, we continually refine our practices to foster social development, reduce our ecological impact, and consistently safeguard human health.
Sustainable practices for our product lines is far more than just lip service. In the development, manufacturing, and optimisation of our products, we prioritise resource-efficient methods, the use of reusable materials and the support of reusable systems.
The new product line of disposal boxes made from recycled plastic (Post Consumer Recycled = PCR) is a current example of our sustainable approach, along with other sustainable product solutions. ith up to 64% recycled content, these boxes play a significant role in lowering CO2 emissions and meet the standards set by ISO 23907 and UN 3291.
Multi-Safe disposal boxes made from recycled material
With up to 64% recycled content (PCR) and up to 51% CO₂e savings versus a disposal box made from 100% new material, our REC disposal box offers an environmentally conscious solution for the disposal of pointed and sharp objects in the healthcare sector.

Disposal boxes made from recycled plastic
As an independent family company, we take responsibility for the environment and future generations. That is why we continuously develop our work and production processes to conserve resources, reduce our ecological footprint and support the protection of human health in the long term.
We understand sustainability as an integral part of our entrepreneurial activities. In the development, manufacture and further development of our products, we pay attention to resource-efficient processes and the use of environmentally friendly materials. Our product lines consistently adhere to high quality and safety standards as well as to a circular use of plastics wherever possible.
The new product line made from post-consumer recycled plastic (PCR) is an example of this approach. It shows how we combine ecological responsibility with functional requirements while reliably meeting the relevant standards, such as ISO 23907 and UN 3291.
The most important safety standards for our disposal boxes
With our Multi-Safe disposal boxes, we make no compromises in terms of safety standards, medical standards, quality controls and compliance. For this reason, all our boxes fulfil at least the German TRBA 250 directive (except Multi-Safe eco and Multi-Safe steri). The TRBA stands for "Technical Rules for Biological Agents in Healthcare and Welfare". It categorises the recommended contact and activities in connection with potentially infectious material into four protection levels and specifies protective measures to prevent infections, contamination and injuries. With solutions in accordance with TRBA 250, we guarantee safe handling of waste in accordance with medical standards.
Our Multi-Safe disposal boxes also fulfil international regulations such as UN 3291 and ISO 23907, the latter of which requires disposal solutions to meet the specifications not only in terms of shape and appearance, but also in terms of features such as wall thickness or resistance to drop tests (from a height of 1.20 metres).
Note: Please note that the risk assessment in accordance with TRBA 250 is relevant for human medical areas, but not for veterinary facilities , practices or research facilities. Here, TRBA 230 applies to the care of farm and zoo animals, among other things. In veterinary medicine, pay particular attention to the requirements of the Waste Catalogue Ordinance (AVV) and the official regulations such as the Enforcement Aid for the Disposal of Waste from Healthcare Facilities (LAGA). Our Multi-Safe boxes are also the ideal solution for this.
Tip: To ensure that waste is disposed of in accordance with regulations, it is recommended that you also enquire with local authorities and districts. Depending on the municipality, community-specific disposal regulations may apply in addition to national and international regulations. These must also be adhered to in order to avoid penalties.
