How many different swab materials are available for the Salivette®?

There are three different types of Salivette®. These types include a swab made of cotton wool (REF 51.1534 and 51.1534.001) or biocompatible synthetic fibre (REF 51.1534.500).

  • +

When should the blue Salivette® (REF 51.1534.500) be used?

The Salivette® Cortisol is the ideal saliva collection system for all diagnostic issues, where even very small amounts of saliva and/or low cortisol levels achieve a reliable cortisol determination.

  • +

Why does the Salivette® Cortisol contain a synthetic fibre swab?

The Salivette® Cortisol was developed for a high recovery of liquid and a very high recovery of the cortisol concentration.

  • +

For which analytes is the Salivette® Cortisol particularly suitable?

It is particularly suitable for analytes which fluctuate hourly. Due to the excellent 100% cortisol recovery rate, the Salivette® Cortisol (REF 51.1534.500) is particularly suitable.

  • +

What do the different Salivette® cap colours mean?

The Salivette® option can be quickly and easily identified using the cap colours:

Opaque white: Salivette® with cotton swab without preparation (REF 51.1534)

Green: Salivette® with cotton swab with citric acid preparation (REF 51.1534.001)

Blue: Salivette® Cortisol with biocompatible synthetic swab without preparation (REF 51.1534.500)

  • +

What centrifugation conditions are generally recommended for the Salivette®?

    Centrifugation at 1,000 x g for 2 min. at 20°C is recommended.

  • +

Why does the Salivette® have to be centrifuged?

Centrifugation transfers the clear saliva from the swab into the conical tube. Any particles are collected in the specially designed tip of the Salivette tube.

  • +

Why is there a TIME field on the Salivette® Cortisol label?

As the cortisol level fluctuates throughout the day (circardian rhythm), specifying the collection time of the analysis result can be taken into consideration when evaluating the analysis results.

  • +

How much saliva can be collected using the Salivette®?

The normal saliva volume yield is between 0.8 and 1.4 ml.

  • +

How is saliva collected using the Salivette®?

In order to collect a saliva sample, the Salivette® simply has to be opened, the swab removed and placed in the mouth. After 45 seconds (gentle chewing possible, but not required), the saliva-soaked swab can be returned  to the Salivette® which is then closed with the plug for storage and transport.

  • +

Why should the Salivette® be used for saliva collection?

Sample collection with the Salivette® is hygienic and easy. The Salivette® provides reliable and accurate results, even with a small volume of saliva and very low analyte concentrations.

  • +

For which patients is the Salivette® suitable?

The Salivette® is particularly suitable for hygienic saliva collection for diagnostics and therapy monitoring in adults. As the swab is a small part that can be swallowed, it is not recommended for use in children under three years.

  • +

How should a saliva sample be stored if it cannot be analysed directly after collection?

The saliva sample should be kept cool after collection (in a refrigerator) or frozen, depending on the parameters.
